With our family being the huge Disney fans we are, it only seemed appropriate that we would get married there. Now, with that being said, when I say "our family" and "Disney" in the same sentence, it usually pertains to the children and me. We loves everything Disney from the man, to the movies, to the parks. Billy loves Disney ... anything to do with it, as long as we can enjoy it in the comfort of our home. He doesn't mind the Parks too much either, as long as it's cold outside (hello, we live in FLORIDA!) and he doesn't have to go to the Magic Kingdom (dry parks are not his thing!!). So, needless to say, he isn't crazy about it like we are. He couldn't care less where we get married, as long as there is good food and fun times. I pushed for Disney, hard, and luckily he gave in. I should mention that, when I told him the minimum expenditures for a Saturday evening wedding are $20,000, he told me I was nuts. Go figure! With it being so costly, we decided that we would wait 2 years before we would tie the knot. We will be paying for the wedding ourselves and that will give us time to save at least half of the cost, as we do not want to go into major debt to throw a huge party. Well, 2 years away was smack dab in the middle of summer. Remember, Billy + Summer + Disney = Disaster. So, we pushed it our a little more til January, good cold weather! It seems so far away, yet so close too.
Location is very important to me, so I searched online and found places around The World that I liked. We took a long weekend trip over the summer with the kids, and while we were there, we visited the places I liked most. These were all reception locations, because I've known since my birthday trip in 5th grade, that I wanted to be married at The Wedding Pavilion! My top choice and most favorite place was in Epcot at the American Adventure Rotunda. It is so beautiful there, and what girl doesn't want to have her first dance under a huge domed ceiling lit up with stars?! Perfect fairytale setting!
Well, as it turns out, Billy had a different vision. We both love old vintage type stuff. Going to antique stores and looking at things is something we love to do together. It is so intriguing to see how life was back then. He thought it would be awesome to have a vintage themed wedding. Which I was not opposed to, but I did have reservations. I wanted our wedding to be huge & fancy .. I wanted people to walk in and go "WOW!". How would I pull this off with old typewriters, depression glass and flapper dresses!? After much discussion (aka be prying his brain for details) I finally got out of him that he wanted glamorous, fancy vintage, feathers and diamonds. After he told me it would be cool if we could have a reception in the Hollywood Tower Hotel, it hit me, he wanted a Hollywood Glamour theme. I can handle that for sure! Since the princess-esque Rotunda wouldn't really work with what we are planning, we have decided to just use a ballroom at The Grand Floridian. It saves some money too! That is always a good thing. Plus, it gives us a blank canvas to work with.
Our colors are black, white and a deep plum purple, instead of the dark red that most use for this theme. We have chosen to use a damask print here and there, just for some texture. We are pretty set on candelabras for centerpieces, with fancy little bobeches, something like the ones to the right. I have also decided that I don't want each and every table exactly the same, so some will have floral on them instead of the candelabra. I want "bling" and pearls on the tables also, but I have not yet decided exactly how I want to incorporate those items. Time will tell for sure. The linens will most likely be dark purple, or I may just decide to go with white and a purple runner. I'm undecided on that also. Good thing I have plenty of time to decide!!
There is still plenty more we are set on and many more details we haven't even thought of yet. I'll share a little each day and maybe it will spread out for a while until we actually get close enough to really get things going! This is all so exciting and it's a blast thinking it all out.
